What is a liver biopsy and why would I need one?

Doctors need to find out the amount of damage to your liver.  They can do this through blood tests and scans, but sometimes it may be necessary to remove a tiny sample of liver to examine. This procedure is called a liver biopsy.

The course of treatment for Hepatitis C varies according to your genotype and how much liver damage you have. Once your sample has been examined, doctors can be sure that the treatment you get is right for you.
