Can children be treated?

Yes, children can be treated for Hepatitis C, with similar success rates to those seen in adults. Just like adults, children will need to be assessed for treatment. Children infected with Hepatitis C should be managed in consultation with paediatric service with specialist expertise in Hepatitis C.

Only certain treatments have currently been licensed for Hepatitis C treatment in children. Clinical trials are underway to establish the safety of some of those not currently licensed for children. These may be available at some point in the near future.
