How do I stay safe?
If you make sure that blood from an infected person cannot get
into your bloodstream, you will not get Hepatitis C.
The virus is spread through blood to blood contact.
One tiny drop of blood from a person who is infected is enough
to pass on the virus, if it is allowed to get into your
bloodstream. For instance, a man with Hepatitis C might cut himself
shaving, and a drop of blood remains on the razor blade. If
that razor was then borrowed by his girlfriend, who also managed to
cut herself, the infected drop of blood may find a way into her
bloodstream.
As long as you don't do anything that might pose a risk of
infection, and you take care to clean up infected blood properly, it is
easy to stay safe.
